Usually I still lurk here, but I really few time in these months to be really active, except on Twitter there I "need" to be present keeping some art pages.

I think to have already talk too much about the 6th year for FiM in other places... I could say anyway that as Opening was better than the previous one, the Starlight part of story have a reason to exists (another thing if Starlight has sense as character, but I don't disgress on this...), but that seems much more a "normal" episode stretched for 40 minutes, when a 20" one was much than sufficient.
Seems really the staff, or Hasbro, has no idea what to do whith the princesses (old and new).

The problem of this film is right in the final. The central part could be passed (but not that I remember stuff that struck me), and the beginning is a deus ex machina: Twilight accidentally invents a magic-sucking device with no knowledge of magic.
I find the explanation of Twi insufficient: the fact that the medallion can detect EMP does not mean magic and tecnology are the same thing. Also, why she invented in a way it can opens, if is only a portable detector? There are fantasy works where the relation between magic/tech is settled, and is defined fixing some rules for both. You can't skip the question just with a vague line.
But, for who not writes fantasy much or haven't much knowledge to how handle a imaginary setting, could be easy skip...

Pros: proper approach to animation in most places (though still using Hasbro's imperfect primary design), lot of design additions, properly polished script
Cons: pop march songs that don't make sense or actually explain anyhing, rich script built on poor overall plot.

It seems that they tried to build it the good way with a lot of work, but some foundation part was missing, which made it a bit wasted.

This statement is true for all the wrong reasons: Cupcakes didn't have Pinkamena in it, it had the ordinary Pinkie Pie, hair style and all that. Speaking as a guy who adores the fanfic.

There are some serious fan fiction stories that seem to describe individual main and background ponies so well that they can be considered better definition of them than the series. but all of them are alternate settings and won't be discussed much in the open anyway. Many of their writing conventions scream "/mlp/!" at you, which made it a bit hard to read (Even though I don't care for Game of Thrones, I still managed to feel insulted by their claims about it). But the fact that "my little pony" is still shown as a popular search term with only a small decline makes me think that FiM is far from doomed yet *shudder*.

But when I take a look at my extremely enclosed parts of the internet, it seems that public opinion has begun to turn against bronies and that non-bronies consider bronies to have been a fad that has finished its run. Ponychan has dropped its posting rate monumentally, having to combine forces with MLPchan *grrr* due to a lack of money and then turning a combined ~30 boards into 10. I have Skundi's words on that /mlp/ has a dramatically lower post frequency than when he regulared the board up until a year ago.

And is exacly how the guys of Horse News love make you feel. ;) They are big trolls, but they also expose the most stupid and disgusting behind-the-scenes of the fandom that Equestria Daily will never dream to touch. If you really want see what going on behind some scandals, Horse News is the best headline. :)

Usually this is a good thing. In fact, I believe that it's one of the best ways to create a story: make story first and attach characters later, so that the characters suit the story, not the other way around.

I ever thought that your points are correct, but until now these errors were not irreparable (even in S5, that is late) becouse they don't make heavy contradictions on the main theme. Many of these can be put aside without affect (too much) the story's meaning or the role of the characters; just is not the best way to write, but still doing its work.

However this episode makes this contradiction on Fluttershy. Before I would not say that FiM was "broken", maybe "cracked", but now I...

Discord is interesting if used as (unreliable) adviser, as saw in Princess Twilight Sparkle: he knows well the Mane 6 to manipulate them in the "good" way.

Good are those games that don't force player to do something in strict sequence; harder to find those on consoles, and more so nowadays. CPT has very original controls for its time (horse!), is on Genesis, which is convenient, and makes players do much less silly things than in some games. It could have more original music like Ecco Jr., though.
