>First, I have the impression that now fillies moves their knees lower during the normal walking. In the Promo #4, the character raise very high the legs for move forward, making a circular movement (or something close). That gives a mechanical feeling expecially in the lateral camera shots. Also, in the frontal shots, I have the impression the legs fold, or push inward, the skin of the model under the chest, deforming it.
>In the new reel the legs seems make lesser movement, and being bended less, and also the problem of the deformation seems disappeard.
>A second impression is that the forelegs had changed of position, moved foward. There is a shot both in promo #4 and #6 similar, and I think in the latter the head was moved a bit back, and the chest appear more round in front.
>I could fool myself, of being fool by the shot anyway.
>What do you think? Is just a my impression?
I think it either is truly an improvement over the old style, or is just a coincidence. In promo 4, when they were walking in the cave, I noticed the high knee movement too, but I thought the characters were doing that on purpose because they wanted to make sure not to lose their footing - it's a dark unexplored cave after all.
To contrast that, Will in promo 6/7 gives a beautiful walk (shortly before falling over a log) that doesn't have this phenomenon. I don't know, it's either from-scene-to-scene choice of animation or they really did change things. Promo 4 was shared almost one year ago, which means it was animated even before that, so it's certain that they've improved things, but I don't know if what you're describing can be classified as something that needed improvement in the first place.
Can't wait to see the finished version of promo 4.
Regarding the model changes... Promo 4 does indeed give an impression that their front leg movements deform the body, which is a weird occurrence. I think I see the same thing happening in the scene where Rose runs through the forest in the latest promo, but I'm still not sure.
